As I'm sure everyone is aware, the annual Met Gala was held on Monday 7th May in NYC. A whole bevy of actresses, models, designers and many other players in the fashion industry came out to celebrate Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelly's exhibition which was aptly called 'Impossible Conversations'.
The attendees were dressed impeccably although some more than others but then again it is the night of experimentation and the majority looked fantastic.
Some of the most influential designers bought special guests who they think represent their brand best and the turn out was as I said, great.
There were a huge number of attendees and its a hard job to get noticed at this event as everyone pulls out all the stops to stand out but I've picked my favourites, you'll notice some were also on my
last years best dressed list.
Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada:
The ever stylish Gwyneth wore a custom Prada dress in honour of Miuccia. Her beautiful steel blue dress with paillettes embroidered pockets was one of my absolute favourites of the night, she has the body and the legs for such a short and revealing dress so it was utter perfection. It amazing what a worthy woman can do to a simple silhouette with minor embellishment - stunning.
With such an attention grabbing dress Gwyneth kept her signature beauty look with a tight ballet bun and natural make-up which also showed off those gorgeous earrings.
Rihanna in Tom Ford:
Rihanna was one of the last people to arrive at the Met, the singer gave me deja vu with her Tom Ford Fall 2012 backless crocodile skin dress, because its a very similar silhouette to last years Stella McCartney dress she wore. She surprised us all with such an elegant and sophisticated look. The dress fit her perfectly and had a small split at the back to show a little skin. Christian Louboutin 'Pigalle' stilettos completed her look.
Riri added the finishing touches with very natural make-up showing off her natural beauty and a sophisticated up-do.
Jessica Alba in Michael Kors:
Golden girl Jessica Alba arrived wearing a custom Michael Kors one shouldered gold lamé dress. The stunning pleated dress looks amazing on Jessica, it has a Grecian feel to with the empire like skirt and the colour is lovely against her olive skin. Jessica always makes an effort at events and this shows why she's always on Best Dressed lists.
The beautiful actress completed her look with a dark berry lip colour and side swept hair revealing her gorgeous Wilfredo Rosado earrings.
Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier:
Fashions latest IT girl Nina Dobrev attended the Met Gala for the first time this year and made sure she made quite the entrance! The stunning brunette teamed up with her go-to designer
Donna Karan who created this gorgeous black and gold backless gown with a breathtaking, sweeping train. Nina looks incredibly elegant in this gown and as I'm sure you'll all agree, after
this appearance last year, Donna Karan must've been the only designer of choice. Match made in fashion heaven!
The young actress teamed her dress with simple H.Stern jewels, an intricate up-do and light make-up with slight accentuation of the eyes to top off her amazing look.
Amber Heard in Zac Posen:
Amber Heard was another starlet attending the Gala for the first time. The blonde bombshell attended with one of her go-to designers Zac Posen. The stunning actress wore this gorgeous, strapless Zac Posen Fall 2012 orchid satin bustier gown which looked divine on her lightly tanned skin and blonde hair. She was certainly out in full bombshell force on the night, wow. The gorgeous silhouette is one of the best of the night for me, she accessorized with Tiffanys jewels.
Amber completed her look with retro waves and a bright red lippie, she looks so beautiful that I don't even need to say anymore. Wow!
January Jones in Atelier Versace:
January Jones was on top form wearing an Atelier Versace Spring 2012 yellow custom gown inspired by a bodysuit presented on the runway. The structured metallic details and peplum waist is almost super hero like and looked gorgeous on her gown adding detail to the classic silhouette. The yellow also is another reason to love this gown, I love bright colours and someone with January's skin-tone and hair colour pulls it off effortlessly. I'm glad to see her back in Versace, they have had major wow moments!
The gorgeous actress who I think is severely underrated sometimes completed her look with a sleek side-parted locks and light make-up with a touch of coral lippie. That vintage Cartier necklace with turquoise gems is breathtaking.
Carey Mulligan in Prada:
Carey Mulligan was the co-host of this years event and the Brit actress did us proud. She was another attendee in a custom Prada creation, her two-tone gold and silver halter dress was covered in paillettes was also nipped in at the waist to accentuate her lovely figure. Carey is a long time Prada devotee so this partnership is no surprise to fashion lovers. I love the mix of metals and the paillette detail is so luxurious, she looks so radiant in this dress that its hard to not like.
The acclaimed actress completed her look with sultry, smoky eyes and a quirky up-do adding to her rock-chick personality.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Burberry:
The Brit model has us all in awe of her when she arrived in this beautiful custom Burberry gown (what else?). Her stripped copper and black tulle gown with an embroidered neckline was a perfect fit on Rosie who always looks preened to perfection no matter what she's wearing. I love that such a simple gown with minor detail apart from the mix of colours can transform when worn by the right person, Rosie's beauty and elegance completely shine through, one of the absolute best of the night.
The model turned actress completed her look with a very high and tight bun and bronzed out eyes that matched the feel of her gown perfectly and also showed off her amazing bone structure. Beautiful all around.
Diane Kruger in Prada:
Blonde beauty Diane is always the one to look out for and she didn't let us down in her gorgeous, purple, custom v-neck Prada gown which was very loose fitting and had a very voluminous ostrich feather hemline. I adore the colour as its not something we've seen Diane in before and the shape and fit of the gown is very bohemian which is welcome at such a formal do'. She's always out to surprise us and this sure did the job, that voluminous hemline is so eye catching, I adore it. It's a very grand gown.
Diane completed her look with long sleek blonde locks left loosely around her shoulders and natural make-up allowing her gown to do the talking. I also love her gold necklace with purple stones, it has a very romantic feel to it.
Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren:
Camilla Belle was another best dressed starlet, she never disappoints us on big occasions and this is no exception. The brunette beauty went very gothic glam at the Met, she wore this beautiful, delicate ivory Ralph Lauren Spring 2012 gown with beaded detailing and tulle cut-outs on the neckline. I absolutely love this gown on Camilla, she's perfect for it - the fit and colour are outstanding and she really transformed the look with her accessories.
Camilla's look was completed with a sleek side bun, flawless skin and a very attention grabbing dark chocolate lipstick which went surprisingly well with such a delicate gown. She was perfect all around.
Kate Bosworth in Prada:
Kate Bosworth is the last of my best dressed who wore a custom Prada dress. The blonde beauty also went very gothic for her look. Her ombre red wine coloured and navy ostrich feathered mini dress was very dramatic and unlike anything else we'd seen before. I love the two-tone effect on the dress and feathers have proven to be very dramatic on both short and long dresses on the night. She accessorized with an eggplant clutch and strappy sandals both by Prada, of course.
Kate completed her gothic look with a very tight braided bun and a dark plum lippie which matched her dress perfectly.
Emma Stone in Lanvin:
Emma Stone was someone I was dying to see as she never disappoints me and believe me this was no exception on the night! The newly blonde actress wore a custom Lanvin designed by Alber Elbaz creation. Emma wore Lanvin last year too and she decided to stick with her designer of choice, much to my happiness. Her bright red satin mini dress with hand-embroidered crystal flowers is absolutely stunning and one of my absolute favourites of the night. The length is perfect for Emma and the colour pops on her fair complexion, I'm glad she wore something this bright and eye catching. It's fun, young and one of those dresses I'll forever dream of wearing.
The gorgeous actress completed her look with a messy bun which was held in place with a custom Lanvin crystal hair pins. Flawless skin and a slick of eyeliner completed her beautiful look.
Leighton Meester in Marchesa:
Last but not least is my darling, Leighton Meester. The beautiful actress accompanied Marchesa as their guest for the night, much to my surprise actually. She wore this unexpected, gold appliqué and tulle Marchesa Fall 2012 gown with a sweetheart neckline and beautiful golden detail all over with lashings of tulle at the hemline. Leighton isn't one for ball gowns which is why it was unexpected but the gown is gorgeous and the colour looks beautiful on her complexion. I especially love the intricate detail on the shoulders. Big surprise but none the less a great look. She completed her look with a gorgeous Marchesa Fall 2012 gold clutch.
Leighton's finishing touches included her newly lightened hair pulled back in a loose bun, flawless skin and a wine-coloured lippie which I thought brought a nice pop of colour. Beautiful, as always.
That's it for this year guys, apologies again for taking so long! Looking forward to next year's Gala already :)
